Card Sets

A card set is a deck of prompts: words, questions or short tasks. Show it on the board or share the link, then draw a card and let students answer. Every card set works on phones, tablets and computers, and full screen is perfect for a projector or a shared screen.

Ideas for using it

  • Warm-ups. Draw three or four cards at the start of class to get everyone talking.
  • Pair and group speaking. Share the link; pairs take turns drawing a card on one phone and answering. Swap partners after a few cards.
  • Grammar practice. Use prompts that need today's structure: "Have you ever...?" for the present perfect, "What would you do if...?" for the second conditional.
  • Vocabulary. Put one word on each card. Students make a sentence, give a definition, or talk for 30 seconds without saying the word.
  • Discussion. Questions or statements on a topic or a news story. "Agree or disagree?" works well for stronger groups.
  • Whole-class on a projector. Press F for full screen and use a presentation clicker, or the arrow keys, to move through the cards.
  • One-to-one lessons. Share your screen and use a card set as a ready conversation plan.
  • Random pickers. A set of names, countries, jobs or emojis makes a quick random generator for games and role plays.

Tips for good cards

  • Keep each card short: one question or one task. Short cards are easier to read from the back of the room.
  • 10 to 20 cards is a good size for one lesson. A set can have up to 50.
  • Grade the questions to the level. Add a follow-up like "Why?" or "Why / why not?" to get longer answers.
  • Choose the order in ⚙ Options: Shuffle (each card once), In order, or Endless (keeps drawing).
  • Use See all cards in ⚙ Options to check the whole set before class.

Make your own

Type your cards, paste a list, or use Generate to write cards from a topic and level. Check and edit them, then create the set and share the link.
